SUDBURY -- A 25-year-old man has been charged after a single-vehicle crash on Manitoulin Island that sent three to hospital with serious injuries.

Provincial police said emergency crews were called to the scene on Government Road in Tehkummah Township at 2:40 a.m. Sunday, in a news release.

All three people were taken to hospital by ambulance with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released.

As a result of the ongoing investigation into the incident, the male driver from Orillia has been charged with failure to comply with demand and operation causing bodily harm.

His driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

Police said alcohol and not using seatbelts were factors in the collision in a tweet Sunday night.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Gore Bay on Nov. 4.
