SUDBURY -- The first francophone public high school in Sudbury is preparing to celebrate an important milestone.
MacDonald-Cartier Secondary School first opened its doors 50 years ago and will do the same for an alumni bash, later this spring.
"I think this is an occasion where we can all get together and reminisce about all the good and bad things that happened while we were in high school," said Richard Malette, 50th-anniversary organizer and graduate.
Malette was on the organization committee for the school's 25th anniversary.
He says he expects this year's event to be larger.
"We're expecting to have anywhere from up to 1,500 people or more," said Malette. "It's going to be a big party all weekend long, and lots of fun."
The school will welcome old faculty and alumni back to the school, with events scheduled throughout the weekend.
"To this day, I still have friends, actually teachers who became my friends, and former students who I stayed in contact with," said Rachel Desaulniers, member of the organizing committee.
Desaulniers says she was inspired by the arts in school, particularly by the coveted Les Drauveurs drama group.
She is producing a documentary about the beginnings of the club, which will be shown at the event.
"I think that's going to be really special," said Desaulniers. "It's going to be great to reminisce, see old pictures, and it's something to be really proud of."
MacDonald-Cartier's 50th anniversary runs through the May long weekend.
