SUDBURY -- The global COVID-19 pandemic has certainly changed the world we live in.

A lot of things are put on hold because of the coronavirus, including weddings, because we are urged to practice physical distancing to help slow the spread.

Faced with the cancellation of her upcoming wedding, a former Sudbury woman and her fiancé found a way to tie the knot during the health crisis.

Tessa Gooden, who is from Sudbury, currently lives in Toronto with her fiancé Peter Balaz. They had planned to get married next month, but the rapid spread of the virus stopped those plans in their tracks.

Their venue closed its doors because of COVID-19, so the couple was forced to find another way to tie the knot.

"Our officiant had agreed to do our ceremony, but eventually also had to cancel so we just ended up putting up a Facebook post on Monday afternoon asking if anyone was an officiant and able do a social distancing type of ceremony," said the new Mrs. Balaz. "We heard from an officiant at 12:45 and had it all set up by 1 p.m."

Balaz said they got married by 3 p.m. that day.

The newlyweds are expecting their first child later this summer.
