A suspect from New York was arrested in Parry Sound this week after police received a report from the public about a suspicious person.

The incident took place July 8 behind a business in the community, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.

“West Parry Sound OPP responded to a report of a suspicious person yelling behind a business in Parry Sound,” police said Wednesday.

“Officers attended and spoke with a person who identified himself as American. Officers contacted the (Canada Border Services Agency) to confirm if the person entered Canada legally.”

After a brief investigation, the 37-year-old New Yorker was arrested under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

The accused was transferred into the custody of the CBSA for further investigation.
