“Through investigation, the driver, a 27-year-old of Powassan sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital,” said police in a news release.

Police have not released the name of the victim nor provided any details on the cause of the crash.

"The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team," OPP said.

Police said a postmortem examination will take place under the direction of the Office of Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

This is the fifth person to die as a result of an ATV crash in the north since April. Last year, 10 people, including four children, were killed in ATV crashes in a span of three months in northern Ontario.
