Laurentian University cancels November show by controversial U.S. comedian

A U.S comedian accused of sexual improprieties won't be performing in Sudbury in November.
Laurentian University said on its Facebook page Friday that the Nov. 8 show at the Fraser Auditorium by comedian Chris D'elia won't happen.
"To those who may have purchased tickets to Chris D’Elia’s Nov. 8 show advertised for the auditorium in the Fraser Building, please know that Laurentian University notified the event promoter (Cabin Media Entertainment Group) on July 5, 2024, that this space rental contract has been cancelled," LU said.
"The event promoter acknowledged receiving the notice of cancellation."
The show will "not take place at Laurentian University," the post added.
A message to Laurentian seeking comment on why the show was cancelled from CTV Northern Ontario elicited this reply:
"The university is not able to further comment on the contract."
The controversy surrounding D'Elia began when several women came forward in 2020 and accused him of harassing them and soliciting intimate pictures. Some of the woman said they were under the age of 18.
And in 2023, 10 women told Rolling Stone Magazine that he "preyed" on them.
He has denied the allegations and has not been charged criminally.

While the Nov. 8 show in Sudbury has been cancelled, D'Elia's show in North Bay on Nov. 7 is still scheduled.
"As this is an outside promoter who is renting the Capitol Centre, we have yet to hear any information from the promoter, Cabin Media, about cancelling the performance," Dan Misturada, interim executive director at the Capital Centre, said in an email to CTV News.
"Should the performance be cancelled, all ticket holders will be notified and refunds issued."
CTV News has not yet received a reply to message to Cabin Media sent on Friday seeking comment.
