TIMMINS -- Week one of Centre Culturel La Ronde’s two-week winter carnival is wrapping up, with family activities blocking off a section of the Timmins downtown area on Saturday.

Residents are able to enjoy classic winter treats like Beaver Tails, roasted marshmallows and maple toffee.

Carnival go-ers can also take-in dog sledding demonstrations and a chance to browse through the Urban Park market throughout the day.

Part of the second annual carnival’s festivities includes visits from the mysterious Bonhomme Carnival mascot, who makes appearances throughout the event.

Members of the local French community can guess who they believe is behind the mask, with the final reveal happening on the last day of the carnival.

Organizers say the event is a way to engage the local francophone community, promote French culture and provide a fun outdoor activity for families.
