SUDBURY -- An 18-year-old from Kirkland Lake was caught driving 180 km/h in a 90 km/h zone this week.

Temiskaming Shores Ontario Provincial Police pulled the female driver over around 10:30 a.m. on July 15 on Highway 11 near Jessie Lake in Temagami.

Officers were conducting speed enforcement using a radar gun when a southbound vehicle approached them driving at double the posted speed limit.

The 18-year-old driver from Kirkland Lake was charged with stunt driving and has been released on a summons to attend court on Oct. 1 in Haileybury.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days and her driver's licence has been suspended for seven days.

"Aggressive driving, including speeding, is one of the leading causal factors in traffic deaths in OPP patrolled areas," police said in a news release. "Please slow down and abide by posted speed limits."
