A 25-year-old northern Ontario man is accused of assaulting and robbing someone with a knife in Kirkland Lake earlier this month.

Officers were called to a robbery on Tweedsmuir Road around 6 p.m. Oct. 19, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Tuesday morning.

"The caller witnessed a person brandish a knife towards the victim, and then assault the victim," OPP said.

"Before departing on foot, the accused person had taken belongings of the victim."

An investigation led police to charge a local man with assault, robbery with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The suspect remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 6.
