SUDBURY -- Two Sudbury schools decided to come together to celebrate International Ninja Day on Thursday.

It involved students from Cambrian College and Larchwood Public School in the Greater Sudbury community of Dowling.

Being a very stressful time of year for post-secondary students, the library at Cambrian College is packed as students prepare for the end of the semester.

In the midst of all the stress, little kindness ninjas, like Sawyer Beauregard, aimed at brightening someone's day.

"We’re showing kindness for the big school for big kids," said Beauregard.

Crystal McLaughlin is a student at Cambrian College. She says she appreciated the efforts made by the little ones.

"Going into finals, I’m prepared, so I’m not as stressed. But, you know, the stress level is there on top of caring for my family at home. So, them coming in and doing this kind of made me take a step back and think of all the good things other people do to make others smile," said McLaughlin.

The junior and senior kindergarten Kindness Ninja’s joined forces with Cambrian's Wellness Ninjas at the school to handout coins with encouraging messages.

Officials with the college say this isn’t exactly something new for them.

Catherine Poulton is Cambrian's wellness coordinator.

"This year is our inaugural group, and we have 75 student wellness ninjas. Prior to that, we had staff wellness ninjas, and we wanted to develop a student mentorship program. So, we tried using the idea of the wellness ninja, and that seems to really resonate with our students," said Poulton.

Natalie Taylor is a teacher at Larchwood Public School.

"We’re hoping that we can create this community connection from when they’re in kindergarten all the way until they are older, and were hoping this is just the first of many this year of collaboration that we have between the two of them," said Taylor.

No matter their age, all the ninjas say they do it for the same reason.

"I like to spread kindness," said Caleb Watkinson.

Organizers say the day was a great success and the hope is that next year, perhaps; they can get seniors involved as well, allowing three generations to come together in the name of kindness.
