SUDBURY -- While COVID-19 has scuttled plans for outdoor events, Science North is planning a virtual Canada Day celebration featuring a performance by Blue Rodeo star Jim Cuddy, the science centre announced Friday.
"Science North, in partnership with Greater Sudbury, the Sudbury Multicultural and Folk Arts Association and Northern Lights Festival Boreal, have come together and are planning a day full of virtual fun with multicultural entertainment, cool science, kids’ activities, arts and crafts, and a whole lot more," the centre said in a news release.
The family friendly event will be taking place in two different segments, one from 2-4 p.m. and the other from 6-8 p.m. and will be available to stream on social media, CTV Northern Ontario website and EastLink TV.
The first segment will feature a variety multicultural groups, including the India-Canada Association, Mino Bimaadiziwin Dance Troupe, Afro-Madness Drum Troupe, Irish Heritage Club of Sudbury, the Northern Ontario Latin-Hispanic Association Dancers, and the Baladi National Dance Studio.
It will also include theatre and musical performances by local artists and organizations.
The evening portion, hosted by Northern Lights Festival Boréal, will be headlined by Cuddy of Blue Rodeo, a Canadian country-rock band that has won multiple Juno awards.
