SUDBURY – CTV News has learned that a principal of an elementary school in Iroquois Falls has been charged with sexual assault.

Ontario Provincial Police say they responded to a sexual assault complaint on Nov. 3.

As a result of an investigation, police say that 40-year-old David Gorman, of Eby Township, has been charged, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code.

CTV News confirmed with Richard Loiselle, the communications director for the Conseil Scolaire Catholique du District des Grandes Rivieres, that the allegation is not related to his work at École catholique Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens.

"We were made aware of the charge against Mr. Gorman.  As a result, Mr. Gorman has been relieved of his duties pending the investigation.  The Ontario Provincial Police has confirmed that his charge is not work related.  We trust that this information will be sufficient as we cannot comment any further regarding this matter.  We continue to keep everyone affected by this news in our thoughts and prayers," said Loiselle.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Kirkland Lake on Dec. 5.
