Intimate partner violence incident near Manitoulin Island leads to attempted murder charge
A resident of Sables-Spanish Rivers Township has been charged with attempted murder and numerous other offences following an incident on Sagamok First Nation on Sunday.
The murder attempt took place on Aug. 4, according to an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) news release.
“At approximately 1:30 a.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the OPP responded to a call for service involving intimate partner violence on Archie's Road in Sagamok First Nation,” said police.
“One person with serious but non-life-threatening injuries was transported to hospital by emergency medical services.”

As a result of the joint investigation by the Anishinabek Police Service and the OPP, a 28-year-old has been charged with attempted murder, spousal assault causing bodily harm, aggravated spousal assault, assault causing bodily harm - choke, suffocate or strangle, forcible confinement, uttering threats, domestic mischief, theft, breaking-and-entering and six counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.
“The name of the accused will not be released to protect the identity of the victim,” said police.
The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
