With Ontario colleges and universities having a tougher time recruiting students here at home, many schools are looking elsewhere to fill their classrooms.

Sault College embarked on a new path five years ago, and this fall expects a huge increase in international students.

Back in 2013, Sault College made it a priority to more attract students from abroad to its campus.

At that time, they had fewer than ten.

This fall, staff expects that number to skyrocket to 360.

Colin Kirkwood is Vice President, Academic and Research, at Sault College.

"We have had our international recruiters in a number of different areas. We've been in the Asia-Pacific area, Philippines, we've been in Vietnam, we obviously have some representation in China." said Kirkwood.

Bony Davis George is just one of the hundreds of new students. He came from India at the start of the year to study project management and says he picked Sault College based on its reputation and the "hands-on" training.

"This is actually what we are getting in our field.  Actually, we are getting a practical experience of what we are doing in our field in Canada, and education, and I just believe this will help me along." said George.

Sault College administration says this fall, roughly 15- 20 per cent of the total enrolment will be international students.

Another reason for recruiting international students is higher fees.

They pay about $15,000 a year for tuition, so if all 360 foreign  students show up this fall, that will be roughly $5.4-million in tuition money for the school.
