SUDBURY -- Skills Ontario is hoping Indigenous youth will consider a career in skilled trades and technologies following an event at Cambrian College.

On Tuesday, youth have a chance to participate in hands-on activities and meet and network with community members who have chosen a career in the field.

"Skills Ontario First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Initiatives aims to continue increasing the involvement of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit youth, and to spark their interest in skilled trades and technology professions," says Ashley Pszeniczny, program manager of the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Initiatives at Skills Ontario. "As more youth consider viable career options for themselves, they are able to contribute to economic and social wellbeing, not only within their communities, but also for the broader province of Ontario."

The Trades & Tech Day is sponsored by the Government of Ontario, Enbridge Gas, Rainbow Schools, and Cambrian College.

Over the last 30 years, Skills Ontario has reached over 125,000 students across Ontario through in-school presentations, summer camps, conferences, and hosting Canada’s largest annual skills competition, which attracts over 37,000 spectators every year.

A Trades & Tech Day will also be held in Timmins on June 3 at Northern College.
