TIMMINS – Two Cree fashion designers are holding their first Indigenous Fashion Show in Timmins on November 2.

It will be at The Ramada Inn at 3 p.m. and will feature 20 garments from the designers.

Barrettes, purses, sweaters, jackets, and mitts will all be showcased.

The designers say it’s a chance to show people what Cree style is and make Indigenous fashion as recognizable as mainstream brands.

"That is what fashion is to us. It's not just the contemporary stuff. It's our hide-making… clothing made out of his, made out of furs and bead-work. Also, flower work… that has a lot to do with it as well," says Jennifer Wabano, Fashion Designer.

Fashion Designer De Lores Gull added that "it's going to be different, it's going to be fun. It's going to help other designers to want to be part of what we do, and I know this is going to mean a lot to the Hudson's and James Bay coast."

The two want to hold another event next year and encourage other fashionistas to show off their Indigenous clothing designs as well.
