SUDBURY -- After several tense hours involving the North Bay police SWAT team in a quiet residential neighbourhood on Monday, one person is in custody.

North Bay police said in a news release, officers were called to a home on Manitou Street on Monday morning about a possible assault.

"When police arrived, the incident progressed into dealing with a person in crisis," said John Schultz, community safety coordinator for North Bay Police Service. "After several hours police took into custody a young person."

Schultz said despite the length of the incident, it ended safely.

"The investigation is continuing and details may be released at a later time when they are available," he said. "Police thank the neighbourhood for their patience and advise that at no time was there a risk to members of the public."

No word yet on what charges are being laid or if there were any injuries in the incident.
