Impaired suspect found dancing in parked minivan peed on steering wheel, seat

An early morning complaint of a man slumped over the steering wheel of a minivan with its engine running in Elliot Lake last week led to impaired driving charges and drug seizures.

Officers from the East Algoma unit responded around 5:30 a.m. and tried to speak to the man who was parked on Highland Place, a dead-end street, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.

The suspect ignored police and appeared to be dancing to the music inside the vehicle.

"He then proceeded to urinate all over the steering wheel and driver's seat area," OPP said.

"The man continued to be uncooperative, but eventually entry was gained and the man safely arrested."

When he was searched, cops found fentanyl, crack cocaine and crack pipes.

"There was also an open bottle of rum and cans of beer, both empty and full inside the van," OPP said.

"The minivan was subsequently towed and impounded."

The 49-year-old local man is charged with operation while impaired of both drugs and alcohol and having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 or more.

He is also charged with having cannabis open and readily available while having control of a vehicle as well possession of methamphetamine and an opioid other than heroin.

He was scheduled to appear in bail court in Blind River the same day.

The OPP asks the public to report impaired drivers.

"Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122," OPP said.
