SUDBURY -- Ontario Provincial Police in North Bay arrested a 42-year-old driver Oct. 18 who was swerving "all over the road" with a six-year-old in the back of the vehicle.

Police received the complaint at 5 p.m. about a vehicle towing a utility trailer "travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 11 southbound towards the City of North Bay."

The OPP located the vehicle at a North Bay gas station and after speaking with the driver, suspected they were impaired.

Police "conducted a roadside screening test on the driver, which resulted in a fail," police said in a news release Wednesday. "The driver was arrested and brought to the North Bay OPP for additional tests."

There six-year-old child was "located in the cargo area of the vehicle," police said.

The 42-year-old driver is from Adjala-Tosorontio Township, near Toronto. The person is charged with impaired driving and driving a trailer with no plate.

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice with a date to attend the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 22. The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver's licence was suspended for 90 days.

Police didn't release the name of the accused to protect the privacy of the child. The OPP also no longer releases the gender of the people they charge with offences.
