SUDBURY -- A two-vehicle collision Nov. 29 on Highway 17 in Bonfield has resulted in three arrests and the seizure of $70,000 in illegal drugs.

Ontario Provincial Police in North Bay received the call at 12:40 p.m. and arrived to discover one of the drivers was impaired, police said in a news release Tuesday.

"Further investigation lead to the seizure of drugs suspected to be opioids, $4,945 in Canadian currency and prohibited weapons which included two imitation hand guns," police said. "Total estimated street value of the seizure is over $70,000."

A 38-year-old from North Bay is charged with impaired driving, two counts of trafficking, possession of a prohibited device for a dangerous purpose, driving while suspended and failing to yield to traffic.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice by video on Dec. 1.

A 32-year-old resident of Bonfield is charged with two counts of trafficking, failing to comply with a release order and possession of a prohibited device for a dangerous purpose.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on Dec. 3.

And a 23-year-old from Mattawa is charged with two counts of trafficking, possession of a prohibited device for a dangerous purpose and possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose.
