Hunter fined $7K for shooting moose on the roadway
A southern Ontario man has been fined $7,000 for violations during an October 2022 hunt in northwestern Ontario.
Remo Iacobelli of Camlachie, Ont., pleaded guilty to careless use of a firearm while hunting. In addition to the fine, he had his hunting licence suspended for two years and is required to retake the hunter education course.
The court heard that on Oct. 9, 2022, a conservation officer initiated an investigation into a moose that was killed along Shanty Road, near Ear Falls.
“The investigation found that Iacobelli fired several shots at a bull moose while he and the moose were on the road,” the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry said in a news release Friday.
“Iacobelli failed to take reasonable consideration for people in the area and anyone that could have been travelling on the roadway.”
Justice of the Peace Jerry Woods heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice in Red Lake on Oct. 11.
