SUDBURY -- Ontario Provincial Police say officers located human remains on the weekend near Temiskaming Shores after receiving a call.

Shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday, the discovery was made in the Township of Casey, a town with a population of just over 300 people in the Timiskaming District.

The identity of the body has not yet been confirmed and a post-mortem examination will happen at a later time.

"There are some missing persons cases in the area that are still unsolved. Until we get a post mortem and identification on a person we will be able to provide information at that time," said OPP Const. Jennifer Smith.

An investigation is ongoing and CTV News will follow the story, so check back for updates.

Correction:

OPP originally reported that the remains were found in Township of Harris, but on May 28 say it was actually Township of Casey, which is just a bit further north.
