Update:

The human remains found in Coleman Township on Monday, April 15 have been identified as those of Nicholas Rivard, 21-years-old, of Haileybury.

He had been missing since March 24 and was last seen in the nearby town of Cobalt.

A post mortem was conducted by the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS) Friday, April 18 in Ottawa.  

An investigation remains ongoing with members of the Temiskaming OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Staff Sergeant Kurtis Fredericks, OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

The OPP would also like to thank members of the public who assisted during this investigation.

(COLEMAN TWP, ON) - On April 15, 2019, shortly before 2:00 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Temiskaming Detachment were notified of found human remains in Coleman Township, South East of the Town of Cobalt, Ontario. 

Temiskaming OPP members, with the assistance of OPP Forensic Identification Unit (FIS), OPP Crime Unit, and the Emergency Response Team (ERT) are continuing this investigation under the direction of Detective S/Sgt Kurtis Fredericks of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

The Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-FPS) are also engaged in this investigation.  

At this time, the identity of the deceased has not been confirmed. A post-mortem examination will take place at a later date. 

There are no further details at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
