Homeowner charged with smoke alarm violation following North Bay fire
A home on Trillium Drive in North Bay was badly damaged by fire Sunday morning.
It emerged later that the home had no working smoke alarms, and the homeowner was charged.
Firefighters responded at 11 a.m. to find the kitchen was fully engulfed in flames.
"Firefighters made entry to the home and made quick work extinguishing the fire without incident," North Bay Fire Services said in a news release Monday.
"One person was home at the time of the fire and suffered some burns trying to extinguish the fire herself. She was treated on scene by paramedics."
The home has suffered significant fire and smoke damage, officials said. The cause has yet to be determined.

"The home was going through some renovations and the smoke alarms were removed for the construction," the release said.
"This is not an acceptable practice and against the law. Removing smoke alarms leaves residents unprotected and vulnerable in the event of an emergency."
The homeowner has been charged with failing to maintain smoke alarms in their home.
