Highway 17 reopens Friday afternoon following fatal crash in West Nipissing

A fatal crash on Friday morning involving two passenger vehicles on Highway 17 in West Nipissing has killed one and sent another to hospital.

After being closed for several hours, the roadway reopened Friday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the scene between Sudbury and Verner around 7 a.m. Aug. 23, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.

It is unclear what caused the crash, but one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation into the crash is underway with help from collision reconstructionists and members of the traffic collision investigation team.
