One person is dead and another is in hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries after a crash involving a commercial and passenger vehicle on Highway 101 west of Timmins on Wednesday afternoon.

The highway reopened Thursday afternoon after being closed for almost 24 hours.

Emergency crews were called to the scene in Keith Township, east of Foleyet, around 3 p.m. Sept. 18, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Thursday morning.

A 38-year-old from Chapleau was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Highway 101 had been closed at Nova Road between Foleyet and Highway 144.

"The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the OPP traffic incident management enforcement team," OPP said.
