Residents of Hearst are being asked to stay away from the area surrounding the Canada Post office as police conduct an investigation.

"9th Street is closed from George Street to 10th Street to Edward Street and from 9th Street to 8th Street to George Street," Ontario Provincial Police said in a social media post just after 10 a.m. Friday.

Several minutes later, police said the Canada Post office on the corner of 9th Street and Prince Street will be closed for "police investigation purposes."

The James Bay OPP detachment said there is a heavy police presence in the area, but has not provided any further details.

CTV News is following the story and will have more information when it becomes available.
