SUDBURY -- It was a day filled with bible readings inside a Sudbury courtroom as Christian extremist David Popescu defended himself on a charge on promoting hate against an identifiable group, specifically homosexuals.

The 72-year-old is accused of telling people former Premier Kathleen Wynne should be executed because she is a lesbian.

Popescu, who was on trial for a similar charge in 2015, said he felt vindicated when the Crown eventually withdrew that charge.

He chose to defend himself in this trial and read out several passages from the bible.

Closing arguments did not wrap up today, so another court date will be found.

Popescu was previously convicted in 2009 of promoting hatred.
