A Sudbury mother, Kim Hancock, says she's reliving a nightmare.

In 2014, her son, DJ was killed by a drunk driver in the area.

The driver, Walter Carter, was convicted and sent to jail.

He's now out on parole and is applying to move back to Sudbury.

Earlier this week, Kim received a phone call from the parole board saying Carter, the man who crashed into DJ has applied to move back to Sudbury

She says, she and her family are speechless

“I didn't get a second chance with my son, so I don't think he deserves a second chance at his life in Sudbury. And nor do I want to run into him anywhere, or my husband or my daughter or even DJ’s friends, you know. He doesn't deserve to get his life back, because I don't get mine back." said Kim.

Hancock was under the impression Carter couldn't apply to return to the city until his sentence is complete, at the end of December 2019.

"I cried. I lost it. Just the fact that he was given the chance to even apply, as far as I am concerned he shouldn't even be able to apply. I wouldn't want to come back. I would never come back here after doing what he did. You know? Impaired driving is a big problem. And the penalties are not big enough." said Hancock.

CTV News reached out to the parole board, and was unable to get a comment.
