A GTA woman, 23, is charged with drug trafficking in northern Ontario after police found a large amount of cocaine during a traffic stop on Highway 11/17.

The drug trafficking investigation led by the Ontario Provincial Police guns and gangs enforcement team in Thunder Bay resulted in a vehicle being pulled over in Shuniah Township on June 18, police said in a news release Monday.

"Officers seized approximately 2.4 kilograms of suspected cocaine and two cell phones following a vehicle stop," OPP said.

The Mississauga suspect is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court June 24 in Thunder Bay.

"Street gangs are migrating to communities across Ontario which has resulted in an increase in the number of illegal firearms entering our communities," OPP said.

"Anyone with any information about the possession, manufacturing or trafficking of illegal drugs or firearms should contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca."
