Sudbury's Italian business community has announced a huge donation on Giving Tuesday for the new Francophone arts and cultural centre, Place des Arts.

Together, a dozen Italian families from Sudbury contributed a quarter of a million dollars to the project's capital fundraising campaign.

Place des Arts Executive Director Leo Therrien thanked the Italian group for the donation, saying it brings the $30 million project closer to its fundraising goal.

Lawyer Perry DellIce, along with Dario Zulich and Mario Grossi and their families, led the initiative. Other donors include:  Amanda Berloni, the Carniel family, the Centis family, the DiBrina family, the Gregorini family, the Palladino family, and the Tarini family.

"This donation reflects a firm commitment to support unifying, forward-looking projects for the Sudbury community as a whole. Music and the arts are at the heart of both Italian and Francophone cultures. It just makes sense that both communities join forces to support Place des Arts. It will be accessible to everyone, all members of the community and cultures. As a group, we are very proud to contribute and be a part of Place des Arts. It is our legacy," said DellIce.

The new arts centre is currently under construction at the corner of Larch and Elgin in downtown Sudbury. Its next construction milestone includes erecting the steel structure.
