Greater Sudbury's mayor elaborates on a host of issues residents are talking about

In an interview Friday, Greater Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger, offered an update on several issues important to people in the community.

In our conversation, Bigger addressed the city's plans to open a temporary supervised injection site.

"I am working with Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, medical officer of health for Public Health Sudbury & Districts, and our city staff in moving the applications forward," said Bigger.

"The next step is the applications of funding and approvals from the federal government for this location."

The site is located in the downtown core at Energy Court just off Elm Street.

"Security is also provided at that site, so people can feel safe in the area," said Bigger.

"You know, we are always balancing the needs of the people who are challenged with the addictions, as well as the general public (and) the business owners in the area."

He said the injection site will become the permanent site because it properly zoned.

The mayor also elaborated on the Kingsway Entertainment District, taxes and garbage collection in our interview.
