“All of the five positions that we’ve been allocated have been filled with students seeking to practice family medicine,” Shoemaker said.

“That is some good news after weeks of difficult news on the healthcare file.”

The announcement from the Sault Ste. Marie Physician Recruitment and Retention Program comes after Sault Area Hospital identified some possible budget challenges as a result of the anticipated strain on operations caused by the de-rostering of thousands of patients by Group Health Centre.

Residency training is set to begin this summer.
