SUDBURY -- A 21-year-old woman from Garson is facing charges after police found her pulled over to the side of the road, asleep, with her vehicle idling.

Sudbury Ontario Provincial Police received the call Aug. 2 at 2:40 a.m. about a suspicious vehicle parked on the westbound shoulder of Highway 17 in Wahnapitae.

"Officers attended the scene and found the vehicle idling and the driver sleeping," police said in a news release. "Investigation revealed the driver had been consuming alcohol and was subsequently arrested."

She now faces two charges related to impaired driving, and will return to court Oct. 7 in Sudbury. She was issued a 90-day driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The charge marks the 38th driver charged under criminal impaired driving laws in the Nipissing West Detachment area in 2020.
