SUDBURY -- As the Greater Sudbury community continues to mourn the loss of three local children killed in a tragic crash on New Year's Day, memorial services have now been scheduled.

A candlelight vigil has been planned for Jan. 16 to honour the young lives of the Osagie siblings: 11-year-old Destiny, 10-year-old Flourish, and six-year-old Britney.

"The community has been devastated and needs some kind of healing, and we thought doing a candlelight vigil would bring everyone together. And the mom is going to be there, so everyone can maybe give her a hug and she can feel the love in the community," said Bela Ravi, of the Multicultural and Folk Arts Association.

Funeral directors with Lougheed Funeral Homes announced Wednesday that all three of the children’s funeral costs will be covered.

"Facilities, drivers, staffing, embalming, a banner for tomorrow night, we have some special cards, etc. There is absolutely no cost to the family at all; there is not a dollar burden on the family for this very sad situation,” said Gerry Lougheed Jr.

People will be meeting for the candlelight vigil Thursday at the VIA Rail Station, across from the arena, in downtown Sudbury at 5:30 p.m. and before walking to Tom Davies Square. The vigil will start at 6 p.m.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 17 from 2 – 5 p.m. at Lougheed Funeral Home on Regent Street.

The funeral service is Saturday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. at Glad Tidings Church. A live stream of the service will be available.

Following the church service, police will escort a procession to the civic cemetery.

The three children will be buried side-by-side as requested by their mother, Uche Osagie.
