Fundraising initiative led by women launches Timmins chapter
A new fundraising initiative called '100 Women Who Care' is about to launch in Timmins.
The organization is establishing a chapter in the city to raise money for people and groups in need.
'100 Women Who Care' will launch its Timmins and Area chapter on Jan. 26.
Soon, its website will be plastered with photos of those who will benefit from their efforts.
"These chapters are popping up all over Ontario and I just … I feel we need to be the change we want to see in the world," said Kim Hallworth, chair of 100 Women Who Care Timmins and Area.
Bringing 100 women together, who’ll each donate $100 in one hour will generate $10,000 in just one hour.
Those who are interested are invited to register on the website and commit to four meetings in a year.
"You can actually pair up with somebody and each of you donate $50," said Hallworth.
Members can also nominate who they think should receive the funds.
"We nominate and when we have the three (finalists), then everybody actually votes," said Rollie Allaire, a member of 100 Women Who Care Temiskaming Shores and More.
The Temiskaming Shores chapter began fundraising in 2019 and so far, has raised $2.5 million for organizations or individuals who’ve suffered a hardship.

"So that is going into a trust fund, specifically for Kaylie for whatever it is that she's going to need in the future," said Allaire.
The inaugural meeting in Timmins will take place at the Timmins Museum and begins at 1 p.m.
Virtual attendance is also available.
