French River Food Bank gets a boost

Share

The hungry in the Municipality of French River are getting some extra help thanks to some help from Global Medic Canada.

The David McAntony Gibson Foundation chose the community as part of its Holiday Hustle initiative.

They're working with a number of emergency service departments to get them the supplies they need to fill the shelves of the foodbank.

On Tuesday, town officials will send down a fire engine and a bylaw truck to pick up the items and bring it to the French River Food Bank.

“We've been hit really hard because … we lost about $45,000 in funding for our food bank here at the municipality so we're trying to figure out a way to offset that loss and the need is great,” said French River Mayor Gisèle Pageau.

“We started the food bank about three years ago. We're serving between 25 and 40 families and in the last few months now with everything that's going on, we're serving over 100 families in French River."

Pageau said they're thrilled to get the help and she's encouraging everyone not to forget their local food bank this Holiday season.
