Free Family Day fun draws dozens in Timmins
Family Day festivities turned out a healthy number of parents and their children in the Timmins area, despite the chilly weather, with many coming out to the Timmins Community Park Association’s free event at Hollinger Park.
Ice skating, free hot dogs and popcorn, a snowman building contest and a “cardboard costume parade" were the activities that drew out dozens of family members Monday afternoon.
Association president Mark Rogers said this has been the focus of the group’s mandate since taking over the maintenance of the city’s skate path in 2019.
"The Timmins Community Park Association was formed to promote healthy living, families being together, being outside to enjoy the outdoors, whether it's summer or winter,” said Rogers, adding that the group also participated in Canada Day celebrations.
“That's why we do this, is to get families out and as you can see around me, we have families out enjoying themselves. It's a great time."
Other Family Day activities in the area included a fishing derby at Porcupine Lake, held by the Timmins Fur Council, and a mantinee junior hockey game between the Timmins Rock and the Hearst Lumberjacks at the McIntyre Arena.
