A real estate lawyer who formerly operated an office in Sudbury has been charged in connection to a fraud case involving over $1.5 million in misappropriated funds from his law firm’s trust account.
Investigators say on Sunday, May 5, 2019, members of the Ontario Provincial Police's Anti-Rackets Branch arrested and charged 37-year-old Stuart Cameron Murray of Kitchener with two counts of fraud over $5,000.
The Law Society of Ontario's website says Murray's licence is currently suspended.
He previously operated under Mullun Law with several offices throughout Ontario, including Kitchener, Ottawa, Toronto, Oakville, and Sudbury.
Police say the charges were laid following an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of money from his law firm's trust account with losses totaling $1.5 million that have been attributed to 49 victims.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa on June 12, 2019 to answer to the charges.
Police are asking any person with information regarding this incident to contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or the OPP Anti-Rackets Branch at 705-329-6424.
