Fog and possible freezing drizzle

SUDBURY -- Environment Canada has issued fog advisories for many communities in northern Ontario Wednesday morning and says significant snow is expected to fall in others.

Patchy, dense fog will slowly dissipate throughout Wednesday morning in:

  • Greater Sudbury and vicinity
  • Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake
  • Manitoulin - Blind River - Killarney

Environment Canada also says patchy, freezing drizzle is also possible as temperatures hover around the freezing mark. This could cause roads and walkways to become icy and slippery.

Travellers should be prepared for areas of near-zero visibility that can happen suddenly. Environment Canada says to slow down, watch for tail lights, and be prepared to stop in these conditions.

Significant snow

Environment Canada also says significant snow is developing Wednesday night into Thursday for the following areas:

  • Agawa - Lake Superior Park
  • Fraserdale - Pledger Lake
  • Kapuskasing - Hearst - Smooth Rock Falls
  • Little Abitibi - Kesagami Lake
  • Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls
  • Wawa - Pukaskwa Park
  • White River - Dubreuilville

Snow is expected to begin over portions of northwestern Ontario and move east towards Quebec by Thursday morning.

Environment Canada says snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are possible during that time. It says areas close to the shores of Lake Superior could begin as rain and as a result receive less snow accumulation, particularly east of Marathon towards Wawa. It is all due to a developing low pressure system.

Snowfall warnings may be required for some regions.

CTV Northern Ontario's Will Aiello will have the updated 7-day weather forecast for the region on CTV News at Noon as well as online here.
