Flood warning still in effect in North Bay district
CTV Northern Ontario: North Bay flood fears
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says the Flood Warning for residents in the Lake Nipissing and Upper French River areas remain in effect until Monday, June 17, 2019.
A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring within specific watercourses and municipalities.
The ministry is monitoring the weather and watershed conditions closely and will provide updates to the public.
Variable winds are expected throughout the week, in addition to more rain, which can affect water levels. The ministry says it will ultimately depend on the rate of evaporation and the actual amount of rainfall.
Boaters are being urged to stay away from shorelines and flood affected areas.
Safety booms have been installed at French River Dams at Lake Nipissing outlet: Big Chaudière, Little Chaudière, and Portage.
Recreational users of boats, jet skis, canoes, kayaks, and such are asked to stay away from dams and flood affected areas due to safety risk. Large debris is also posing a hazard in the waterways, as well as shorelines and banks adjacent to rivers and creeks, which are very slippery and unstable.
Residents in the two affected areas are encouraged to monitor the conditions and be prepared.
Road closures and sand bagging efforts continue.
