SUDBURY -- Health officials in Sudbury have announced five new cases of COVID-19.

According to Public Health Sudbury & Districts, all five cases are in the Greater Sudbury area.

Out of the latest cases, four are said to have contracted the virus as a close contact while health officials are unable to confirm how the fifth person was exposed. That is often a sign of community spread.

There have been a number of new cases confirmed by the health unit this week. On Friday, 20 cases were confirmed while nine were confirmed on Thursday.

This is the fifth day in a row of multiple infections being reported by Public Health Sudbury & Districts.

Anyone who is considered to be a close contact of the individuals will be contacted directly by health officials.
