There were some tense moments at Pearson Airport in Toronto Wednesday night for passengers aboard an Air Canada Express plane headed to Sudbury.

Officials say Jazz flight 8613 experienced an issue with the left main brakes as the jet departed just after 7 pm. The crew quickly stopped the plane as a fire broke out and evacuated the passengers immediately.

Debra Williams is the corporate communications manager of Jazz Aviation. She says emergency response crews put out the flames coming from the left brakes.

There were no injuries, but those who spoke with CTV News Wednesday night say many are shaken up from the ordeal.

People on the flight were taken back to Terminal One by bus with new flights scheduled to Sudbury for Thursday.

"The aircraft will undergo a thorough inspection by our maintenance personnel. We apologize to our passengers for ths incident and did make alternate arrangements for their travel to Sudbury." said Williams.
