Film finalists announced for CTV Best in Shorts competition
Cinefest Sudbury announced the eight finalists in the annual CTV Best in Shorts competition Thursday.
"An outstanding number of submissions from talented filmmakers" came in from across northern Ontario, the film festival said in a news release.
Five of the eight finalists are from Sudbury.
"This year’s finalists, who will now have their work screened to a festival audience, receive exposure within the film industry and have a chance to compete for a variety of cash prizes," Cinefest said.
The finalists are:
- Cupid's Assist directed by Richard Barlow of Sudbury
- Ephemera directed by Cici Clancy of Sudbury
- How to Eat a Rainbow directed by Tom Reid of Sudbury
- Lucy's Birthday directed by Liam Siebolt of North Bay
- The Painted Knight directed by Ben Bruhmuller of Sudbury
- Save Solace directed by Matthew Steeves of Temagami
- The Snipers directed by Kelly Saxberg of Thunder Bay
- The Stain directed by MJ Dionne of Sudbury
All eight short films will be screened Sept. 21 at noon along with the presentation of awards.
The Northern Flicks Award will be presented to the one that "best represents aspects of life in northern Ontario" and comes with a $1,000 cash prize.
Other prizes include $1,250 for first place in the open category and $750 for second place.
The 36th annual Cinefest Sudbury International Film Festival begins Sept. 14 at Silver City Sudbury and ends Sept. 22.
