TIMMINS -- It's been a few months since a gathering of people have gotten together in Timmins.  But the Timmins Tuners, car and truck club made it happen.

It hosted a car show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Narduzzi Family Restaurant parking lot.

People from as far away as Englehart, Hearst and Quebec drove into town in their classic and souped up vehicles for the show and fundraising event.

"It's better than putting money in stocks cause you get to enjoy this and it never goes down in value, so you get to enjoy it during the summertime and have a good time," said Dan Dagenais, from Timmins and the owner of a 1951 Mercury.

Timmins Tuners founder and president, TeeJay McDonell said club members often get together for coffee or go for cruises, but they want to do more than that.

"If we're going to put something on, we want to raise money and give back," he said.

McDonell said eighty-six vehicles were on display and $3,604.50 was raised for the South Porcupine Food Bank.

"At this point in time there's a great need, so events like this are really helping a lot. TeeJay's idea today was to fill the parking lot to help fill bellies, and I think we did it, even in the rain," said Melissa Narduzzi, president of the South Porcupine Food Bank.
