SAULT STE. MARIE -- Few details on a homicide investigation in Sault Ste. Marie's east end have been released by police.

At around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sault police were alerted to an altercation at a home on Muriel Drive. Upon arrival, police said its officers located a victim suffering from stab wounds. The victim was later transported to hospital, where they died due to their injuries.

"There was an accused taken into custody," said Lincoln Louttit, Sault police spokesperson. "The accused, as well as the victim, are known to each other and it is not believed to be a threat to public safety."

Louttit said further details into the investigation will not be released, due to a publication ban being ordered on the case.

As of Friday, an investigation is still ongoing.

This is the second homicide investigation in Sault Ste. Marie this year. On Jan. 9, 44-year-old John David Jamieson was shot and killed on Caledon Street.
