SAULT STE. MARIE – The Machine Shop in Sault Ste. Marie has turned into a winter wonderland.

A record 95 trees are up for grabs in the 21st annual Festival of Trees.

"We have great support from our local businesses. They come out, they have fun decorating, they have fun coming up with themes for their trees, and they're already thinking about themes for next year," said Grace Brigilo, Ontario Lung Association.

Elaine Fragomeni loves the event and has been attending since the start.

Growing up she used to volunteer at the event. Now, she lives in Guelph, but each year she comes back on this weekend just to look at all the trees and support the cause.

"My grandfather passed away from lung disease about eight years ago, so it means a lot to me and my family to continue to support the Lung Association," she explained.

There will be nearly $80,000 in prizes throughout the festival, including things like NHL tickets, gift cards and dental work.

The local Lung Association hosts two fundraising events and this is the most popular one.

Organizers say it's actually the top event in the province for the Ontario Lung Association.

In a time when companies are cutting back on donations, the Lung Association says its honoured to get so much support from local businesses to make the event a success.
