Police in Greater Sudbury have arrested a federal offender wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.

Earlier this week, the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) squad asked for the public's help in finding Tyler Closs, 26, who was wanted for breaching conditions of their statutory release.

Closs is serving a four-year, six-month and 10-day sentence for two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, one count of obstructing a peace officer and assault using threats of violence or using force.

He was known to frequent Sudbury, Toronto and Kingston when “his whereabouts became unknown,” the Ontario ROPE squad said in a news release Friday.

Police in Sudbury were alerted just after 9:35 p.m. on Aug. 8 that a resident "believed that Tyler Closs was present at an establishment on Lasalle Boulevard," police said in a news release Friday.

"Officers from our emergency response unit and patrol operations quickly arrived on scene, confirmed the individual was Tyler Closs and immediately took him into custody. (He) has since been transferred into the custody of the Sudbury District Jail without incident."

"We would like to thank those who contacted police with information related to the whereabouts of this dangerous offender," Sudbury police added.

“The provincial ROPE squad would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance in this investigation,” the squad said.
