Ontario Provincial Police say they were called to the scene of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 in Cochrane at 2:30 am on Wednesday, June 12 involving a pedestrian.
Police say Kelsey Strang, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The highway was closed for several hours for an investigation and has since reopened.
An investigation continues and more details will be provided as they become available.
A forest fire that started two weeks ago, forced the evacuation of hundreds of residents of Pikangikum First Nation, who were taken in by many northern Ontario communities, including the Town of Cochrane.
It has already burned over 3,800 hectares and is currently being held.
