A pedestrian is dead following a collision with a commercial motor vehicle on Highway 17 west of Thunder Bay on Thursday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police and other emergency responders were called at 10:14 a.m. to the crash site five kilometres west of English River.

Highway 17 is closed between Highway 599 and Shabaqua Corners, police said in a news release.

"Highway 11 remains open and clear to be utilized by motorists," the OPP said.

"At this time, one person has been pronounced deceased."

The OPP North West Region traffic incident management and enforcement team and OPP collision reconstructionists are at the scene of the ongoing investigation.

Police ask residents not to call 911 for updates, but to check Ontario 511 for up-to-date information.
